What is a BAPI? How does it differ from a regular function module?

BAPI is a standard way to connect and work with SAP business data in a safe and controlled way. Regular function modules are more flexible but are mostly used inside the SAP system for specific tasks. BAPI is better for external integration, while function modules are mainly for internal use.
